Movement for Wellness 
 

Movement Class for all levels, no experience necessary

 

Explore moving your body while being led through a practice of listening and attending to yourself. In this workshop we will dance and move our bodies with a somatic approach, one where you are your best teacher. Elements of Yoga, contemporary dance and Authentic Movement will be woven throughout, with the ability to use props, such as chairs as our partner.

The workshop runs for 3 Tuesdays in June.

Movement for Wellness

Dance Improvisation Workshops 

Dance Improvisation workshop for all levels, no experience necessary

Explore guided structured improvisation in a group setting. These explorations will be based on Darryl Tracy’s site specific piece which will be performed during the Saint John Contemporary Dance Festival in July. Participants do not have to perform in the festival. No prior dance experience required.

The workshop runs for 3 Wednesdays in June.

Meet your instructor!

Sarah Power

she/her

 

Originally from Saint John, Sarah has been working as a professional independent dance artist and teacher since graduating from Toronto Metropolitan University in 2001. She is a founding member and current Artistic Director of Connection Dance Works.

Her career has included collaborations with musicians, dancers, filmmakers and visual artists. From across Canada. She has received grants for Professional Development, Residencies and Creation projects through the Canada Council for the Arts and artsnb.

 

Sarah is an Associate Teacher with Cecchetti Canada and certified in the American Ballet Theatre National Training Curriculum levels Pre-Primary through Grade 5. Her teaching philosophy centres on creative movement, age-appropriate anatomical alignment, and healthy self-image. She is the director of the Intermediate and Senior Ballet at First City School of Dance.

 

​Sarah continues to learn and develop work through her practice of Authentic Movement, a way of discovering movement inherent in the body instead of inventing it.

 

"I’m interested in intuition itself and how it can unfold. For me, it is a process of witnessing and waiting for something to happen. I see it as sitting in the middle of the creative experience, paying attention."
